Cold chain under GDP conditions

Medical shipments require more than a fast trip. The Good Distribution Practice (GDP) standard requires temperature retention from pickup to delivery, logging of the temperature curve, and assurance of an uninterrupted cold chain. Hart voor Transport works with calibrated cool boxes in several temperature ranges — 2-8 °C for standard pharmaceuticals, controlled room temperature (15-25 °C) for sensitive products, and on request lower ranges for special shipments. Every trip is fitted with a temperature logger that records the curve so you can submit a full report afterwards.

Who we drive for

Hospitals use us for inter-hospital transport of patient materials, CT images, implants for emergency operations and tissue for pathology assessment. Laboratories have blood samples, urine specimens and microbiological cultures collected right after sampling and brought to central labs. GP practices and outpatient clinics send samples to regional labs every day. Pharmacies arrange urgent deliveries of rare medication between locations. Pharmaceutical companies rely on us for distribution of clinical trial materials and special preparations to care institutions.

Our way of working in 4 steps

1. Phone call or portal order. You call, email or use the booking portal. We confirm the pickup time and price straight away. 2. Courier on the way with a cool box. Within roughly 60 minutes an affiliated courier with the right cool box is at your location; in urban regions often sooner. 3. In-person handover. The parcel is handed over in person with a signature from the sender, noting the temperature at pickup. 4. Direct trip to destination. No detours, no combining with other shipments. On arrival, an in-person handover to authorised staff, a second temperature reading and a signature on the consignment note.

What is medical transport?

Medical transport is the carriage of time-critical medical material: lab samples, blood products, medication, organs, medical equipment. It requires strict chain-of-custody, temperature-chain monitoring and a way of working under GDP conditions. Hart voor Transport drives for hospitals, GP out-of-hours services, laboratories and pharmacies across the Netherlands.

Frequently asked questions

How do you handle GDP?

Medical and pharmaceutical shipments are transported under GDP conditions (Good Distribution Practice): temperature monitoring, chain-of-custody, sealed cool boxes and documentation per trip.

Which temperatures do you handle?

Ambient (+15°C to +25°C), refrigerated (+2°C to +8°C) and deep-frozen (-20°C with dry ice) are all three possible. Cryo (-80°C) and organ transport are available on request.

Do you operate 24/7 for medical?

Yes. Medical trips always take priority. Including at night, at weekends and on public holidays. Pickup time depends on the region of the request — usually within 60 minutes in urban areas, longer in sparsely populated regions.

What about GDPR (privacy)?

We only see logistics data — no patient data. Couriers sign an NDA. Sealed boxes/envelopes are never opened. In short: transport-only, no substantive access to medical information.

Do you drive for GP out-of-hours services?

Yes. Several GP out-of-hours services in North Holland use us for evening-night-weekend trips of samples to the laboratory. Rate depends on volume and time window.

Can you transport blood samples?

Yes. As standard in a cool box +2°C/+8°C with a data logger. Shelf life depends on the sample type — in any case we drive within the clinical time limit.

Do you also drive for emergencies in the south of the Netherlands?

Yes, across the Netherlands including Breda, Eindhoven and Maastricht. Pickup times in sparsely populated regions can be 2-4 hours; for high-priority cases we work with regional partner couriers to deliver as quickly as possible.
