Lab transport differs from regular medical transport because of its broad scope: clinical samples, research samples, reagents, small equipment and even consumables. Each category has its own temperature and time-critical requirements. Our couriers know the cool-box specifications and the chain-of-custody forms.
Typical use cases
Clinical samples (blood, urine, tissue)
From hospital to central lab, 2-8°C with a data logger.
Reagents and biotech material
Between R&D labs and suppliers, ambient or refrigerated.
Research samples for trials
Clinical trial material between centres, strict chain of custody.
Lab equipment and calibration
Urgent transport of small instruments between labs and service centres.
Process in 4 steps
- Intake with sample specificationSample type, temperature, viability, origin and destination location.
- Scanning and sealing at pick-upThe courier photographs the seal; the chain-of-custody form is signed by the sender.
- Temperature-logged transportData logger in the box; real-time alarm on deviation.
- Delivery at the labSignature of the lab employee; temperature report by email to all parties.
Which vehicles do we use?
A passenger car or small van with validated cool boxes. For larger volumes (reagents, equipment) a medium van. Cleanroom preparation is available on request for specific applications (limited dust-free).
Liability and confidentiality
Under carrier liability. For valuable reagents or unique research samples a higher liability limit is available on request. Couriers sign an NDA for clinical trial material or confidential R&D.
Why customers choose us
- Experience with LUMC, UMC Utrecht, Erasmus MC and university labs
- Clinical trials CTPA experience
- Validated cool boxes (2-8°C / -20°C)
- Chain-of-custody forms as standard
- Available 24/7 for clinical rush jobs
Frequently asked questions
Which sample types do you transport?
Blood, urine, tissue, swabs, DNA/RNA samples, cell lines. For ambient temperature, refrigerated (+2 to +8°C) and frozen (-20°C with dry ice). Cryo (-80°C) is available on request.
Do you work with clinical trials?
Yes. For several clinical trial centres in the Netherlands we transport trial material under chain of custody. CTPA procedures (Clinical Trial Partnership Agreement) are followed. The courier signs a trial-specific NDA.
Can you transport reagents overnight?
Yes, available 24/7. For overnight reagent rushes between labs and suppliers a night surcharge applies (+15%). Often ideal in fact, because the motorways are clear.
What is the difference between lab transport and a general medical courier?
A medical courier is broader (also pharma distribution, patient-related). Lab transport is specific to samples, reagents and equipment in a research or diagnostic context. The temperature procedures are stricter for samples; chain of custody is specific to trials.
Do you work for biotech start-ups?
Yes. Biotech start-ups at Leiden Bio Science Park, Utrecht Science Park, Delft Technopolis and Eindhoven High Tech Campus use us for reagents and R&D samples. For confidential prototypes we work with sealed crates.
How long do samples remain viable during transport?
Depending on the type: blood at 2-8°C typically 24-48 hours, frozen tissue at -20°C 7 days, cryo at -80°C months. We aim to keep within the relevant clinical time window and confirm timing per shipment; for long distances we can add extra dry ice.
What does lab transport cost?
Standard medical rate: ambient temperature, €75 refrigerated, higher for frozen. For fixed contract customers (lab, hospital) a monthly invoice with volume discount and a dedicated courier on scheduled routes.
